Kenworth Introduces the C580: The Extreme-Duty Vocational Truck

March 9, 2026

Kenworth has officially announced the all-new C580 extreme-duty vocational truck.

Kenworth has officially unveiled the all-new C580, marking a significant evolution in extreme-duty vocational trucking. Announced at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, the C580 is designed to replace the legendary C500, a truck that has set the benchmark for severe-service applications for over 50 years. By blending the proven, rugged durability of the C500 chassis with the comfort and advanced technology of Kenworth’s latest cab platform, the C580 offers the best of both worlds. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2027, delivering a new level of capability for operators working in the world’s most demanding environments.

Key Features of the Kenworth C580:

Extreme-Duty Performance and Configurability

The C580 is engineered to handle workloads that other trucks simply cannot touch, boasting a gross combination weight capacity of up to one million pounds. It maintains Kenworth’s reputation for versatility with available single- or twin-steer axle configurations and front-drive axle options that allow for 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, and even 10×10 setups. To support these massive loads, the truck features high-capacity axle ratings of up to 44,000 pounds on twin steer axles and 165,000 pounds on tandem rear axles. Additionally, a massive 1,780-square-inch cooling module ensures the powertrain remains cool even during high-horsepower operation in extreme heat or high-altitude environments.

Proven Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the C580 provides the power necessary for heavy-haul applications. In North America, it comes standard with the EPA-compliant Cummins X15 engine, offering ratings up to 605 horsepower and 2,050 lb.-ft. of torque. Kenworth has matched this power with a robust suite of transmission options, including manual transmissions and Allison 4000 and 6000 Series automatics. Notably, the C580 introduces the advanced Eaton Endurant XD Pro automated transmission to the extreme-duty segment for the first time, providing operators with efficient, reliable shifting under heavy loads.

Advanced Cab, Technology, and Driver Comfort

While the chassis is built for brute strength, the driver experience has been completely modernized. The C580 utilizes Kenworth’s latest vocational cab platform, offering a larger windshield, optimized hood slope, and superior visibility compared to its predecessor. Inside, drivers will find increased room between the seats and a customizable 15-inch high-definition digital display that places critical gauge information directly in view. Safety has also been upgraded with standard heated LED headlamps and available Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ensuring operators are supported by the latest safety technology.

Durability and ease of upfit remain top priorities for the C580. The truck features abrasion-resistant double-wrapped exterior wiring harnesses and a robust common electrical architecture that simplifies the integration of aftermarket bodies and equipment. Serviceability is enhanced with a sheet metal hood and fenders, along with classic dual 13-inch cowl-mounted ERA air cleaners that provide both high performance and easy maintenance. Whether hauling heavy equipment or operating in remote off-highway locations, the C580 is built to maximize uptime.

Built to Carry the Legacy Forward

For decades, Kenworth’s C-Series trucks have operated in some of the harshest environments on the planet, from Arctic oilfields to remote mining operations around the globe. The C580 carries that legacy forward, combining legendary toughness with modern engineering, emissions compliance, and driver-focused design. As Kenworth transitions away from legacy platforms, the C580 stands as the new benchmark for extreme-duty vocational performance.
