  • Summary:

    The Body Shop Technician will be responsible for repairing damaged body parts and bodies of trucks in accordance with factory and dealership specifications and time standards.

    • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
    • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts
    • Prepares trucks for body repair work
    • Notifies the Body Shop Manager or Service Advisor of any additional repairs needed.
    • Notifies the Body Shop Manager or Service Advisor of any difficulties or problems that may prevent a quality job from being performed or cause a change in the promised time
    • Maintains tools and equipment in a proper state of repair
    • Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer
    • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management
    • Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of trucks
    • Communicates with body shop service advisor/body shop foreman or lead hand, immediately, if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
    • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order, utilizing the Repair Order Interface (where applicable)
    • Participates in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools, and events
    • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
    • Ensures that the customers’ vehicles are kept clean. Notifies body shop service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
    • Keeps body shop area neat and clean after each repair. Returns all common tools that were used in the repair to their designated storage place
    • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools, manuals, and computer diagnostic equipment. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received
    • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, provincial/state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, occupational health & safety regulations, etc.
    • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Requirements:
    • Qualification as a Journeyperson Autobody Technician essential
    • Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Computer skills and experience preferred
    • Supervisory skills and experience preferred
    • Five years related experience and/or training
    • Good mechanical aptitude
    • Licensed Autobody Technician
    • Valid Driver’s Licence: Class 3 with Airbrake Endorsement or Class 1 (to test drive truck & trailer)
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 kgs or 50 pounds on occasion
    • Must be able to walk around body shop floor and exterior yard area (long periods standing / walking).
    • Must have the mobility to easily access and egress trucks and equipment.
    • Must be willing and able to work various shifts, possibly including weekends.
    • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required
